🔬 Bringing Research to Life: Joint Real-World Testing on Automated and Connected Driving.
The return to the test track marked an important step for our project team from research institutions and companies from the automotive sector: Making key research objectives of automated and connected driving tangible and testable in real-world conditions.
At the test site, multiple project partners brought their research vehicles for real world testing. For the first time, we put the research vehicles together into operation in the field – not in a simulation, but on the actual test track under real conditions.
🎯 The focus was on validating key research objectives:
🌟 Commissioning and testing of automated and connected research vehicles in real-world conditions
🌟 First integration with the digital twin – bridging virtual and physical worlds
🌟 Initial drone test flights supporting perception and communication
🌟 System-level testing under real-world conditions
🌟 Testing V2X communication systems and interoperability
This setup enabled our project team to experience and evaluate their developments directly – closing the gap between lab prototypes and real-world application.
With sunny weather and great team spirit, we not only made technical progress but also deepened collaboration through team activities and BBQs.
A special highlight was our field trip to Maasmechelen, where we explored the local automated shuttles and had insightful discussions with Tim de Ceunynck, who presented the operational fleet of automated shuttles in Terhills.
We are proud of the progress made – and even more excited for what lies ahead. So stay tuned for exciting updates! 🚗🔍
